Strapping Solutions for the Lumber Industry

Precision, speed, and safety are extremely important in the dynamic lumber industry. Strapping materials are commonly used to bind bundles and keep them from shifting during handling and transport. As the industry continues to evolve, so do the tools and techniques used for securing and shipping lumber products.

Polyester Strapping - The Safer Alternative to Steel

While steel strapping has been the go-to option for many years, the lumber industry is now seeing a shift toward polyester strapping. Polyester strapping offers numerous advantages that make it a safer and more effective alternative to steel strapping.

One of the primary benefits of polyester strapping is its superior flexibility. Unlike steel strapping, which can be rigid and prone to snapping, polyester strapping is lightweight and has exceptional elasticity, reducing the risk of accidents during transportation and handling. Polyester strapping is also resistant to corrosion, ensuring the integrity of the strapping even in humid or damp conditions.

Many of our clients have experienced large cost savings by switching to polyester from steel due to lower material costs and fewer worker injuries during the application process.

Strap Choppers - Eliminating Strapping Waste

Innovations in the lumber industry aren't limited to strapping materials alone. Strap choppers are designed to chop and dispose of used strapping, minimizing waste and creating a safer working environment. The amount of loose strapping that typically fills a 20-yard dumpster can fit into one Gaylord box after it’s been chopped. By reducing the number of times a dumpster needs to be emptied, many companies have seen a return on investment on their strap choppers in just six months!

The Sweed Model 300 is a tough light-duty strap chopper with a 1" infeed opening and .5 HP motor. It's able to chop up to ¾” x .050” plastic strapping and up to ¾” x .031” steel banding.

The Sweed Model 450 DDX can process large volumes of plastic strapping with its dual-driven feed works. It's equipped with a 3.5" infeed opening and a 1 HP motor. It can chop most sizes of plastic strapping and up to 1” x .031” steel banding.

Handheld Strapping Tools - Powerful Mobile Bundling

In the fast-paced lumber industry, where speed is critical, handheld banders have emerged as essential tools for workers on the ground and on the move. These tools provide the power and precision required to secure loads quickly and securely. From tensioning and sealing to cutting excess strapping, these tools streamline the strapping process and maximize efficiency. Many options exist to suit all needs such as manual, battery-operated, and pneumatic tools that handle various types and sizes of strapping.
