Splice Up Your Life with Our Top Selling Splicing Tapes

What is splicing tape?

A splice is the process of joining two rolls of a product using tape, called splicing tape, to create one continuous roll. This is done in place of rethreading a machine each time a new roll of product is needed. Paper, plastic, cardboard, foam, and laminate flooring all come from a manufacturer on a roll and need to be fed into a machine to be made into their final product.

Here are our top selling spicing tapes by tesa®, 3M™, and Nitto®.

tesa 519163

tesa 519163
This thin double-sided repulpable tape is made of tissue paper and modified water soluble acrylic adhesive. It has a high shear strength, good inditial tack, low splice thickness, very good heat resistance, and good repulpability over full pH-range (pH3-pH9). It’s great for permanent overlapping splices, flying splices in sheeters or calendars, and core starting.

The acrylic transfer tape consists of a transparent, pure acrylic adhesive that’s age-resistant, has high initial tact, and withstands elevated temperatures. It’s great for splicing paper and filmic web (particularly flying splices) as well as mounting displays and posters.

3M Double Coated Tape 469

3M Double Coated Tape 469
A 5.5 mil red tented tape with a premium double-coated tissue carrier. The carrier is mounted on a 72 lb. densified kraft paper liner for ease of deployment and handling. Additionally, this tape has good initial adhesion and will bond to a variety of similar and dissimilar materials including low surface energy plastics and a variety of paper grades and thicknesses. It offers excellent UV resistance and high solvent resistance, making it ideal for demanding print applications.

3M Double Coated Tape 9420

3M Double Coated Tape 9420
A clean polyester film tape with a super aggressive, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive, and a glassine release liner. This tape uses a hand-tearable polyester film that is coated on both sides with a heavy layer of adhesive for superior bonding and conformability to irregular and flat surfaces. The tape’s red color makes it easy to see in splicing applications.

Nitto 738MC
The single-coated tape is made of a special repulpable micro-crepe paper coated with a colorless water-soluble pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive. It has a very high stretching properties, very high shear strength, good adhesion strength, it’s repulpable according to TAP PI Method UM-213-A, and RoHS compliant (2002/95/CE). It’s specially engineered for core starting and real closing in paper mills and printing plants (medium weight micro-creped paper), but it’s suitable for the food packaging industry as well.

Nitto 5350B
This double-coated tape consists of a black PET carrier coated with a modified acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive. It’s mainly used for splicing low surface energy plastic films in the splicing plastic films and extrusion/printing industry. The tape has a high temperature resistance, good adhesion, high tact on low surface energy plastic films, and is RoHS compliant (2002/95/CE).
